From Script to Screen (and Everywhere In Between!): The One-Man Army Behind pkBandey

Introducing Bandey

You’ve met Pandey Ji, navigated “Mom’s Logic,” laughed with Ivaan, and pondered with Baba and Vatsa. But who is the person bringing all these characters and their hilarious worlds to life? That would be me, Nimish, and if you’re from an Indian middle-class family yourself, you’ll understand why I often feel like a one-man army, juggling multiple roles both on and off-screen!

Behind every quick skit, every witty dialogue, and every relatable family moment on pkBandey, there’s a journey that starts long before the camera rolls. It’s a journey fueled by a passion for laughter and a deep belief in the power of clean, family-oriented comedy that genuinely reflects our everyday lives, without resorting to anything obscene or crude. That’s a promise I hold dear.

The Idea Sparks: From Daily Life to Digital Skits

My inspiration isn’t found in a textbook; it’s right here, in the heart of my own Indian middle-class family-man. The subtle quirks, the classic arguments, the priceless moments with my 3-year-old son, Ivaan – they’re all gold. Many of you will recognize these scenarios because you live them too! That’s where the initial spark for a skit ignites. Whether it’s a typical husband-wife banter or a child’s unfiltered observation, the goal is always to create humor that resonates deeply and cleanly with families.

From Page to Persona: Crafting the Characters

Once an idea clicks, it’s straight to the script. I write all the comedy skit scripts with dialogues myself, trying to capture that authentic Indian family flavor. Then comes the fun part: transforming into each “Bandey.” This is where the wigs, mustaches, beards, and various props come into play! Each character, from the ever-exasperated Pandey Ji to the sharp-witted Wife, the innocent Ivaan, or the philosophical Baba, gets their distinct look and mannerisms, all brought to life by one person. It’s a dance of quick changes and embracing each unique persona to deliver that perfect punchline.

The Tech Behind the Talent (Kept Simple!)

After filming (in 4K, on phone), the magic happens in editing. I use Davinci Resolve (the free version, because every middle-class Indian family knows the value of a good deal!) to edit and render all my Shorts. Organizing all the footage and ideas is made easier with my Google One cloud storage, where everything has its own designated folder – because a little order helps prevent complete chaos, right?

Beyond the videos, there’s the website, pkbandey.com. As a hobbyist full-stack web developer, building a website wasn’t new, but time is always a factor. So, I opted for WordPress with the Kadence Theme to get it up and running efficiently.
And yes, a little automation helps too – I even have a system that automatically posts new Shorts to our Facebook Page. It’s a practical approach to managing a growing online presence without getting bogged down by simple yet time consuming things.

The Real Juggling Act: Beyond the Screen

This “one-man army” isn’t just a creative choice; it’s a necessity, reflective of the busy lives many of us lead. My wife goes to her job, and I’m a work-from-home dad, taking care of Ivaan. Then, when the family is asleep, my night shifts as an IT professional begin. So, fitting in the scriptwriting, filming, editing, and website management for pkBandey is truly a labor of love, carved out of precious hours. It’s a testament to the fact that with passion and a dash of desi determination, you can build something meaningful, even amidst the beautiful chaos of daily life.
